They created the above video of the glitch at work. They discovered that after the player saves in the room with the big cannon that Link is unable to warp the cannon out of the room because the game claims a man is watching you still, but if you look around no one is there. If you try to leave the room, the man appears at the door and won’t let you leave. You’re stuck. You can’t leave and you can’t progress the storyline.
Early this week, Kotaku.com reported on the sexy booty-showing fashion worn by the goddess Sakuya in Okami and well, apparently she’s not the only one in the Nippon that likes to feel the breeze in her special parts. While playing Okami today, I came across a weird little fisherman along Ryoshima Coast who was wearing nothing more than a sea shell over his winky. That’s a big shell… maybe its not true what they say about Asian guys. Apparently the people of ancient Japan aren’t afraid to try some daring fashion statements. With the goddess showing off her booty, the enemies showing off their baboon booties and now the fisherman with the shell thong, I’m half expecting to see Queen Himiko in Sei-an City wearing a dominatrix outfit or something....

True hardcore retro gamers tend to collect old games, systems, and anything else game related. I myself tend not to collect a lot of these things, but I do have one collection for which as a gamer I am proud of and that is my Nintendo Power Card collection. Back in October 1992, Nintendo Power launched a new feature called the Super Power Club in issue 41 which gave readers these cards which you could punch out and collect. Each card contained information on a NES, Gameboy or Super Nintendo game and a challenge for the player to complete for the game. The challenge gave three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Pro. To add to the point of actually collecting and trading these cards with friends, each issue would include a three card set that if the reader owned, then they could send the set in and win a free game. You could even send away for the complete set of cards for $5.00 but they were marked so you couldn’t use them in the contest....

Darkstar One – PC
All the thrill of running trade routes between lifeless space stations of Eve Online without other players and the advanced economy, which means it’s actually sorta fun. 7/10

Ninety Nine Nights – Xbox 360
If overcoming one billion enemies with two attacks sounds like your idea of a good time, your name is probably John Cena and I probably just made a joke that half of our readers won’t get. 7/10

Madden NFL 07 – Xbox 360
Gaming snobs complain that Madden rests on its laurels and only updates its roster with each new version but it does a lot more, like feature a new player on the cover. 8/10

Xyanide – Xbox
In this shoot-em-up you blast your way through levels and enemies conjured from the imagination of your enemy, who is apparently fixated on the intestines of gigantic spacegoats that survive by ingesting pure beams of colored light. 6/10

Dirge Of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII – PS2
I love the smell of a generic shooter in the morning, smells like… cash-in. 6/10

Payout Poker & Casino – PSP
I’m glad this game was made because I’ve always loved below average casino games, but hated not being able to watch my avatar walk through an empty casino from game to game at a speed that just barely outpaces continental drift. 2/10

Deep Labyrinth – GBA
A few alternate titles that are less sexually suggestive: Corridor Fight, Complex Spell Symbol Memorizer, Vagina Spelunking, Monotony Quest. 5/10

Dungeon Siege II: The Broken World – PC
From the makers of the sequel that no one asked for comes the expansion pack no one paid attention to, complete with a new race no one cares about and a story even less people will find compelling. 5/10

Flatout 2 – PC
The full priced racing game that didn’t realize it was a budget title got better this time around, much to the surprise and delight of everyone but the poor ragdoll driver is about to be ejected through his windshield more times than he’ll signal for a turn. 7/10

Dead Rising – Xbox 360
When there’s no room in the save system, the braindead shall flood the internet and complain about a brilliant game. 9/10

Pac-Man – Xbox 360
The classic arcade hit appears on a powerful next-gen system with capabilities that no one would have thought possible in 1980, and the controls are actually worse now than they were over 25 years ago. 1/10

Barnyard – PS2
A paint-by-the-numbers movie gets adapted into a game that manages to be creative and do its own thing instead of following the usual movie port template, a clear sign that someone is going to be fired. 6/10

D1 Grand Prix – PS2
This awkward racer with horrible controls must have been developed by a team of particularly angry curmudgeons, as touching grass for just an instant penalizes your score more than running directly into a wall. 2/10

Super Monkey Ball Adventure – GCN
Putting a Monkey Ball in a platforming game is sort of like combining the family dog with a cat using a staple gun, only more messy and poorly thought out. 3/10

Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation – GBA
When giant robots fight to the death with giant phallic laserguns, we all win. 8/10

Barnyard – GBA
A paint-by-the-numbers movie gets adapted into a paint-by-the-numbers game that lasts for (and was probably developed in) all of two hours, a clear sign that someone is going to get a promotion. 2/10

Yes, sweeties, Faith Naked is off September 1st to September 3rd to the annual Fan Expo in Toronto, Canada for a weekend of mingling with the geekiest of fanboys and girls at the best convention in Canada. Oh, I’m getting a happy on just thinking about it.

The Annual Fan Expo in Toronto is a huge convention featuring 5 conventions in all: Canadian National Comic Book Expo, SFX: Canadian National Science Fiction Expo, Rue Morgue Festival of Fear, CNAnime: Canadian National Anime Expo, and GX: Canadian National Gaming Expo. That’s right; all things geek in one huge weekend expo. This will be my fifth year going and I am stoked more than ever for this year.

My journey will start on Friday night at 6pm with the Video Games Live show at Massey Hall in Toronto. Video Games Live is a concert featuring an orchestra and choir that performs the music from various video games like Super Mario Bros, Halo, and The Legend of Zelda. The show also includes interactive elements like a costume contest, game previews, and a chance to win a new laptop during the show. Check out Destructoid.com’s article on the show to know more about it. I’ve been lucky enough to make friends with the marketing coordinator for the show, Becky “Altrez” Young and will be getting to go backstage after the show, as well as help judge the costume contest. So for those of you entering the contest, you know who to suck up to now. I’ll also get a chance to meet the show creator’s Tommy Tallerico (My #1) and Jack Hall as well as maybe a few local industry people. Sweetness!

Saturday I’ll be at the convention itself where I’ll spend my day perusing the endless aisles of vendors peddling their geek wares, and waiting in line to get autographs from the many special guests such as Juliet Landau, better known as Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Gates McFadden, better known as Dr. Beverley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Each guest also has an intimate and interactive session that deluxe pass holders can attend to sit and listen to hundreds of real fan boys ask them a bunch of really dumb questions. The convention features special events for all the conventions over the course of the weekend such as anime screenings, a masquerade contest, a special party at The Reverb for the horror convention featuring an appearance from Alice Cooper, and card battle tournaments.

The science fiction expo is also holding a Star Trek 40th Anniversary event with special guests William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. The special event included an intimate and interactive session with the two stars and then depending on how much you fork out for the different ticket packages, you can also get photos, autographs and free exclusive items. I’m not going to this event because I refused to pay $130 dollars just to listen to obsessed Star Trek fans ask questions of their gods, Kirk and Spock. I did fork out $80 to do the same thing with James Marsters at last year’s convention, so I guess we all have our faults.

The convention just added the Horror and Gaming Expos last year, so I hope to see more content from both of these expos at the con this year. Nintendo was the only major company to be involved in the Gaming expo, but with G4 TechTV sponsoring the event and D.O.R.K hosting a few gaming tournaments, my hope that this year will feature more companies from the video game, role-playing game, and card battle industries. The horror convention has also added a few new elements this year like horror movie screenings, game sessions for Vampire: The Eternal Struggle, and World of Darkness, and a live panel of quests to answer questions about the horror industry. Hopefully this is a sign that there will be more content this year for the horror expo.

Look for a full recap of my weekend at the Fan Expo next week.

For more info on all the expos and events, check out the Fan Expo 2006 website.

For more info on Video Games Live, check out the official website.

(Note: Anyone still interested in getting tickets for this event, I suggest going to the Massey Hall website and buying the tickets directly from there, instead of using Ticketmaster. See I got mine from Ticketmaster and I ended up with horrible seats on the main floor, when there are apparently good front area seats still available on the Massey Hall site. Curse you, stupid Ticketmaster for putting me behind a pole!)

With so many responses coming from people in the gaming journalism industry, its kind of hard to get a valid answer, because everyone is too worried that they’re going to lose their precious industry insider cards from the gaming companies. I came across an interesting article from a former industry journalist that wasn’t afraid to point out the truth about how so many gaming medias are too afraid to release inside info, due to the strangle hold the gaming companies have on them. Rob “Super Rob” Stevens, former editor of Planet Gamecube, seemed to hit the nail on the head when he describes the industry as being full of writers and not journalists. “Further, we need more strong journalists willing to stand behind a story and not cater to publishers and PR companies willing to cut them off. After all, they can’t do it to everyone, because they need us as much as we need them. Hell, I could argue that we need more journalists in this industry in general, since what we have right now are writers. (I have written so few journalistic pieces in my day that I could probably count them without taking my shoes off.) The more we learn what it really means to be a journalist, the further the entire industry is going to go.” Read the full article here....
