PS3 Netflix Going Discless

Well, whatever exclusive arrangement Microsoft had with Netflix must be expiring towards the end of this year, because as of October, the PlayStation 3 will no longer require the special disc to access the service, according to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings.
"Before our next call in October," said Reed, "we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn't require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements."
So now like the Xbox 360, the PS3 will be able to stream movies and TV shows without the need to eject the game you're playing to insert a special disc. Unfortunately, there's no word on when the Wii will enjoy the same discless Netflix access, but on the plus side, Netflix is expanding it's streaming into Canada via "a range of consumer electronics devices." No specific consoles have been mentioned as yet, but it would seem likely. Oh, and so far, it doesn't seem that the PS3 will require a PlayStation Plus subscription in addition to the Netflix subscription like the 360 does with requiring Xbox LIVE Gold membership. But if that changes, we'll let you know!

It will be PSN Plus. Sony has to try to sell that dog somehow.
The PS3 Netflix update will include an option for SEARCH without having to use the annoying and often useless category system.
