It Is Pitch Black, You Get Lamp And Learn About Text Adventures
You'll constantly hear fans of point and click adventure games (self included) endlessly whine about the fact that their genre of choice is no longer nearly as popular as it once was, but those that follow the interactive fiction scene (read: text based adventures) have been there and done that longer than anyone. Considering just how games like Zork and Adventureland changed the face of narratives in gaming forever, it seems odd that they get no or little mention today.
Enter Get Lamp, A lengthy documentary from Jason Scott that explores the history of text adventures, their creators, and their lasting impression upon gaming. While the DVD's price tag of $40 is a little higher than I expected, the website promises a laundry list of awesome things included (2 DVDs of content, spoiler marked extras, and even an individually numbered collectable coin!). Check out the trailer above and head on over to the website to pick up your copy of this unusual documentary.

As long as I'm recommending documentaries to you dear readers, let me suggest you take in the 4 hour+ epic that is Never Sleep Again, an extravaganza that covers the entire Nightmare of Elm Street saga.

Hmmmm, looks interesting. I still remember playing Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (which is still one of the funniest games out there) and Arthur when I was a kid.
