Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Site Appears, Tempts You To The Templars

We were promised more details on the mulitplayer-enhanced sequel Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, after the internet got a hold of the box art a bit early and Ubisoft was forced to confirm the game. As it happens, that reveal may have made today's news that much less mysterious, since all we get today is a Templar envoy and a glimpse of some weapons.

Today, AC fans received a letter:

Dear [you],

Hello and welcome to the new era of Abstergo Industries. I am Dr. Warren Vidic, the head genetic researcher and lead on the Animus Project. I would like to extend to you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will ensure your place in history. An offering to you to welcome a new dawn of man. A great battle looms to finish the past and begin the future. JOIN US... and see a new era rise.

Dr. Warren Vidic

The included link opens up to a page with a new teaser trailer, drawing the user in to the huge animus cluster through which players waltzed in Assassin's Creed II. This time, you return as a subject, while a worringly enthusiastic voice-over tells you how great it would be if you worked for the Templars.

Once inside the traditionally neat HUD of an Animus computer, you're treated to a rotating wheel showing off five new weapons: a hand-axe, mechanical claw, syringe, stiletto dagger, and a lovely bladed fan--each with a brief description and a massively distorted teaser video showing their use.

After each video, a symbol appears. The last option in the wheel menu is a grid of such symbols. Entering all six will unlock a video for the new switchblade weapon, as well as a huge Abstergo wallpaper image.

This teaser site is a fun diversion, but it barely teases anything in the way of new gameplay elements or even story clues. Yes, we know the Assassins and the Templar are at war, and each wants to bring truth and light to the world by killing the other. Yes, we know the Templars have all the cool gadgets, which the Assassins then co-opt by being clever. Can we at least see how the multiplayer will work?

More information may turn up today, but for now we'll just have to wait and amuse ourselves watching the switchblade animation.

I hope there are sections to use the other assassins in single player mode. If there isn't a section where I deal out justice with that fan I'll be so disappointed.
