Left 4 Dead 1 And 2 Will Have Cross-Platform Mac Vs PC Play

Yesterday we found out that Steam will be chugging along to Mac owners in the near future Along with the rest of Valve's catalog, both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 will be included in the platform shift. Why am I making special mention of those games? Because Valve has announced that they will feature cross-platform play between Macs and PCs.
Of course, it wouldn't be fair unless Mac owners got all of the same map and patch updates at the same time as PC owners, as well as the ability to mod your own maps and host dedicated servers, so Valve has committed to keeping that equal as well. This is all in addition to the fact that thanks to Steam Play anyone who already owns either game for PC already owns the Mac version as well.
It's quite impressive the amount of effort Valve is putting into bringing its games to the Mac. While I'm not a Mac owner myself, I do look forward to zombie devouring them online this April when Steam for Mac launches. Now it's only a matter of time until the inevitable Team Fortress 2 cross-platform play announcement.

This is pretty awesome news, I have to say. Even though I don't use my MacBook Pro to play P games via Boot Camp any more since I built my new gaming rig last year, it's still a nice gesture, and Valve clearly sees Mac as a viable market. Hopefully other developers will follow suit.
