Fangamer's T-Shirts Rock An Old School Style.
Distinguished from the other PAX East booths by its wall of scribbled fan comments and impressive selection of old school game goodies was indie apparel and classic game franchise supporter Fangamer.
Fangamer has its roots in classic old school gaming. Specifically the GBA game Mother 3. This game was a direct sequel to Earthbound for the SNES but was only released in Japan. Teaming up with Starman.net, Fangamer set out to design an English language guide book for American audiences who might be using the fan translation patch released in October 2008. This comprehensive book is available on their website for $20.
Fangamer is also dedicated to merchandising old school franchises like Chrono Trigger for fans who are not being serviced by first party companies. T-shirts, figurines and other apparel sport a variety of designs from games like Earthbound and even some styles from Metal Gear Solid 4. Fangamer will take symbols like the gears and clock pendulum from Chrono Trigger and design them a legal way so that the fans get a product not available to them because the company may have dropped the IP. They also try to work with game specific sites to promote their product and stay connected to the community. I spoke with Gerritt Rosa at the Fangamer booth and he had this to say:
"We do our best to connect with game sites so we can make products that the fans will enjoy."

The best part was on Sunday when myself and another guy from starmen.net (Bill Eager/Sephy) donned fangamer shirts and acted as "booth bears"--since booth babes were verboten we decided to bear it up and do that. Sadly Bill is straight so he was only an honorary bear but between the two of us we had everyone covered (and let people draw all over us once the board got filled!)
This only really happened on Sunday though (and I was personally only there for an hour) but thanks to everyone who came out to the fangamer booth because it was a blast :)
