Big Surprise Final Fantasy XIII Sold Pretty Well!

Square Enix sent out a press release today proudly declaring that sell-in shipments of the hotly-anticipated Final Fantasy XIII have now exceeded 5 million units. With over 3 million of those sales coming from North American and PAL territories. This brings the grand total of Final Fantasy series up to 96 million units. I know I account for about seven of those 96 million, so I guess I helped do my part.
I do wish they reported specific console numbers, though. I'm very curious to know how it sold on the Xbox 360 versus the PlayStation 3. I would suppose the numbers should be pretty even, if not a little higher on the 360 because of the higher install base. But I don't suppose they would've reached numbers this high if it was still a Sony exclusive...

How is it a suprise that it sold well?
It's final fantasy. lol
Sorry... guess the sarcasm didn't translate in the title of the article! :-D
no it did, he's just a tad slow
@Dr Rush:
Let me introduce you to my friend, Sarcasm.
@ redlupine
Screw you.

Sorry I take things too literally.
Considering there was 7 people at the midnight launch going for the 360 version and 48 for the PS3 version i can bet that the PS3 version sold more copies.
This actually is surprising, for me at least. I understand the game sold disappointingly in Japan. I also figured that most casual gamers of the series were over at it this point and hardcore fans were alienated by the constant change and evolution of the series.
I got my copy for 360 (I can't afford a PS3) and I'm pleased at how well it looks and plays. Very beautiful.
"I know I account for about seven of those 96 million, so I guess I helped do my part."
22 for me :) I am a proud Final Fantasy Fanatic. Possibly 24 if I finally decide to get the 2 PSP anniversary editions.
Like 13 so far, but Lightning (for now anyway) is way too much like Cloud who is low, low on my FF hero list
I wasn't able to make it for the midnight launch, but I asked the guy at Gamestop the next day how it went. He said that they had a pretty good turn out and that the PS3 outsold the 360 by at least five to one...
Huh. I thought the larger install base would mean the 360 would sell more copies, but I guess FF is still perceived as a Sony franchise in a way. That, or the 360 fans couldn't care less about it!
Well, this 360 owner does care about it at least. Can't give them the notion that all us "XBOTS" only care about are FPS and Madden after all.
Yes, people, this five million number is NOT sales of the game. Square-Enix issued this announcement just hours after the game went on sale in North America, and in no way, shape, or form in indicative of how well the game is actually selling.
Please, GayGamer, do your research and stop following the trend of blindly posting whatever comes your way. I'm sure the game will sell well, but shipping five million is NOT selling five million. Its just not.
For my part, I got the PS3 version, but only because it's been shown to be the superior version. Had the two versions performed equally at the same audio-visual fidelity, I would have gotten the Xbox 360 version for the superior controller and Achievements.
You know... I had to get the Xbox version cause there werent any ps3's in a 100 mile radius... You'd think Sony would be prepared for that
