Video: Ivy The Kiwi
I have to admit one thing, if Sonic were to be made into a cute bird, he definitely be a Kiwi. Apparently, one of Sonic's creators, Yuji Naka, has worked with Sega's independent game studio Prope to help develop the fun little platformer game above, Ivy the Kiwi. The video above is the Japanese trailer for the game, which looks like a cross of Sonic, cuteness, and the gameplay of Kirby Canvas Curse. Basically your little Kiwi moves on his own, and it's up to you to create platforms for the little bird to use to navigate his way through the level. Apparently the ropes can even be used to fling your feathered friend like a slingshot too, allowing him also to break through certain blocks.
I have to admit, I was a big fan of Canvas Curse when it came out during the early days of the DS, so the game has me intrigued. On top of that, it appears as if the studio is creating the game for both the DS and the Wii. Whether one is just a port of the other, or each is its own unique game, I'm uncertain, but it is nice that they are releasing across the Nintendo platform base. On top of that they have confirmed they will be releasing both WiiWare and DSiWare versions of the game, probably lighter in content, which means that it will be available to try a smaller version before you buy the big retail version.
The games are due to launch in Japan on April 22nd. No word yet on if the game will be releasing outside of Japan currently, but hopefully the cute Ivy can worm its way into our hearts and show that Kiwi birds are cute, and Kiwi fruits are fruity.

I'm so disappointed there hasn't been a Canvas Curse sequel. This looks like a fair replacement at least.
He's so cute I gagged a little.
This game looks so charming. I'll probably get it for my classic DS!
