BioShock 2 Releases Today! How Will You Return To Rapture?

bio2sister.jpg

The long anticipated sequel to BioShock finally launches today and in many cases, people who went to midnight launches have already been playing for hours. Unfortunately, the place I decide to order my Limited Edition from wasn't having a midnight launch and I have my radio show today so I won't be able to dive down into the depths until well after 2pm PST. But you can bet that after that time I will be incommunicado for the rest of the day.

What is your BioShock 2 experience going to be like? Did you get it at a midnight launch? Did you pre-order? Collector's Edition or regular? PS3 or Xbox 360? Or maybe you're waiting to see how it's going to do before buying it. Or maybe you could just care less! Whatever your reaction may be, let us know in the comments.

I'll be doing a follow up article on this in a couple days and really want to see how people are reacting to the launch of a game with so much expectation behind it. So please, even if you don't usually comment, put your reaction to the game and its launch here so we can get a really good cross section of responses.

Unfortunately no midnight launches here, and besides, I dont buy games in Portugal anymore, since paying 70 euros for a game here is nonsense when I can get the same game from Amazon for 50, including tax and shipping. So I am waiting, should arrive by friday, hopefully.

Got standard edition for the 360.

Alas, I won't be able to pick up my collector's edition PC copy until well after 7pm, and I won't get to play it until after 10:30pm. We'll see if what they say is true about anticip...

I adored the original Bioshock but for some reason have had little desire to play Bioshock 2, at least not yet. I'll probably be picking it up in a few months when it's gone down in price a bit. Until then I have plenty of games to keep me busy.

I was surprised that Steam released it early this morning (2AM CST), and started playing then.

While I'm enjoying my return to Rapture, I'm still trying hard to believe in the main antagonist. Almost seems shoehorned in so that the sequel could take place--was there during the fall of Rapture but this is the first we hear of the figure? Everything else has been an adjustment (they made some curious remapping of keys choices on PC that I had to fix), but generally fun.

I ordered a special edition over here and I got a message that it's available.
However the store I ordered with is incredibly unreliable with pre-orders. So I had also pre-ordered with Amazon. The Amazon one has dispatched, so I'll cancel the one here and put my deposit on something else (most likely Heavy Rain).
It does mean I won't be playing Bioshock 2 for at least a few days though.

I really enjoyed the original but haven't had any desire to pick up the sequel. Had this been a -prequel- I would have been clamoring and waiting in the cold for a midnight release... but a sequel just doesn't really hold my interest.

I was lucky enough to somehow get today off from work so I decided to pick up my Special Edition for the PS3 at the midnight launch last night. The line in front of GameStop had somewhere between twenty and thirty people waiting outside the door.

It's actually the first "Special/Limited/Collector's Edition" of any video game that I have ever bought. It's pretty hard to sucker me out of money for a bunch of useless crap that will probably collect dust on the shelf. But hey, I am a sucker for vinyl, and once I heard that the original BioShock soundtrack was going to be in the SE and pressed on 180g vinyl, I had to do it. And it was money well spent.

Oh, and the book is pretty fantastic too.

I am a few hours in and the game is just as beautiful and haunting as the original. Though it took about an hour before it really sunk into my head that I was indeed playing as the first Big Daddy. The game play is very similar to the original BioShock, but the difficulty has been kicked up a few notches.(Hint: The Big Sisters show no mercy.)

I know it's too early, but it could easily be a contender for GOTY for 2010.

I picked it up around 12:30 this afternoon, after taking a half-day from work. I got a giant Diet Dr. Pepper and a big bag of Doritos because I wanted this to be a shameless Bioshock appareciation day. It was a complete success. My biggest problem now is how to force myself to go to bed.

Picked up my Xbox360 version today. Unfortunately have a paper to write before I get lost playing it. Hoping to get done tonight and have almost a full day to play it tomorrow.

I actually was not aware of this game having high expectations among anyone i know. Especially considering it's more of a cash in than a true 2nd game.

If anything i have low expectations but am hoping for the best. Ken Levine has said he achieved everything he wanted with the first. Sometime a good thing should be left alone. Too too too many sequels lately.

PC, I ONLY play FPS games on PC. Sadly they ruined the multiplayer with console style matchmaking and no dedicated servers (such is the legacy of Modern Borefare 2), so the small amount of interest I had in the multiplayer in the first place is now completely gone, so I'm pretty much playing single-player only.

Downloaded this thing off of direct2drive. It was a stuttery buggy mess. After searching out how to solve the immediate crash to desktop issue, I was treated to stuttery cutscenes which I eventually had to skip. I played the game for a total of 23 seconds before it crashed to desktop again.

I have a completely standard alienware installation with decent sound and graphics capabilities. -Very upset-. Trying to get my money back.

I pre-ordered Bioshock 2 at the last minute and despite really wanting to get some rest, decided to stay up for like 4 hours playing through the first few levels. The characters and game world have a lovely complexity to them, and the gameplay seems faster and even more challenging (read...HARD!). Fans of the first game are going to be well pleased with the polish and loving attention to detail applied to this franchise. Its a keeper, ladies and gents.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
