Video: Devil's Tuning Fork
Created by a group of Depaul students calling themselves the Depaul Game Elites, assisted by former Bungie Software president Alex Seropian, Devil's Tuning Fork is a puzzle game that was inspired by the work of M.C. Escher, and uses as its primary mechanic that of echolocation. It is an entry in the 2010 Independent Games Festival Student Competition.
From the game's text itself:
Devil's Tuning Fork is a first-person exploration/puzzle game in which the player must navigate an unknown world using visual sound waves. The absence of light allows the player to perceive the world in an entirely new way.As a mysterious epidemic causes children everywhere to fall into comas, one child wakes up in an alternate reality. It is up to this child, the player, to determine the cause of the epidemic and save the other children trapped here. By way of the Devil's Tuning Fork, a magical instrument that allows the player to perceive sound waves, the player must find all the children and successfully escape this alternate reality, thereby waking up from the coma.
It is a new way to explore a space, and one I can say I have thoroughly enjoyed thus far. It is available for download (alongside system specs) to play on PC on their website, which also offers a form for feedback.
