Opinionation: Playing 2009's Games In 2010

I know that 2009 is just a memory now and we're already kicking off 2010 with a great batch of games, but if you're anything like me, and enjoy not spending $60 on a game, you'll be spending a good portion of the of the next few months checking out some of the titles you missed last year. While it's great to be up to date on the biggest releases of the year, I've always found this time of year to be a good time to look back on some of the smaller, oddball, or just plain "missed out on" releases.
For me I'll be spending this time reacquainting myself with ports of old favorites like Persona on PSP and Klonoa for Wii, along with the latest additions to newer series like GTA: Episodes From Liberty City and Left 4 Dead 2. While I don't make resolutions often, I do use this time as a period of reflection and a few titles that I have lined up make me question my time management skills last year. How on earth I made it through 2009 without playing more than the first stage of MadWorld or playing much of Boom Blox: Bash Party is beyond me. Along the same lines, I've tried to use this time to better myself by mixing it up with a few games outside the genres I typically play. So far the results have been mixed as I tried getting into Mass Effect after hearing so many good things about it. Unfortunately, I found that as much as I loved the story, the game itself was a complete mess (I'll revisit the series once Bioware settles on combining just four genres in one game). I'm hoping that my next experiment, Fable 2, will broaden my horizons a bit and even make me reconsider my possibly harsh judgment of its predecessor.
What say you, dear reader? Have you been spending time with a few older titles recently while you wait for new ones to arrive? Are you spending time with a not so old classic because nothing else on the horizon interests you? Or maybe you're in a hurry to wrap up all the side missions you can in FallOut 3 before your next epic gets released? Either way, share your experiences in the comments!

I've heard nothing good about MadWorld. It's murder porn.
Fable 2 just isn't a game. It's a walk through a beautiful garden where nothing interesting can happen to you. It's about as challenging as turning pages. It has a cool intro, very beautiful and classical, and then it just dumps you on a narrow path to the end boss and, eventually, your castle. I grinded until I mastered all three disciplines, but I could not possibly tell you why. I hope I've set your expectations low enough that you might enjoy these two nonetheless.
Meanwhile, I've been spending nearly every waking moment on Saints Row 2. That's the game GTAIV should have been. It's fun, it's whacky, it's a crime sandbox that lets you go out and blow up what you want to without stupid tutorials and cousins, and the character customization is in the stratosphere. My character is a sassy black woman in the chiseled young body of a white man with hooker makeup, pink baby doll clothes, and a constant psychotic sneer. I was having a blast with this game before I got past the character creation screen.
