God Eater Demo Downloaded 1 Million Times; Gamers Hungry For More
There are a great many measures of success once a game is already out: MetaCritic, a favorite reviewer, a trusted gamer pal, throwing darts a board... But before a game goes gold, just about the only way to judge its popularity is by looking at the reception of its demo, and by this standard, the new action-RPG by Namco Bandai, God Eater, is shaping up to be quite popular indeed
We first saw the trailer last October, and the concept seems solid: bring Monster Hunter-style team challenges to a post-apocalyptic setting, sprinkle in some requisite religious themes, and top it off with a gigantic sword which defies the usual tropes by transforming not only into a gun, but also a wicked predator-machine that can bite chunks out of the oversized enemies you'll be facing.
Even if it's had about six weeks to entice gamers looking for a new experience in a popular genre, this demo being downloaded over a million times is nothing to sneeze at. Obviously, it's either doing something right, or getting enough gamers intrigued to give it a spin. Hopefully, the game will find enough purchase in those far lands to make it worth localizing for us anglophiles!
It's worth noting that this stat is just based on the Japanese PSN, the most 'official' resource from which to find it. If you don't have a Japanese PSN account, you can also just give it a try from Namco-Bandai's site.
If you find it worth the wait, keep hoping we'll see it outside of Japan! God Eater will be releasing across the waters on February 4.
