Analyst: Assassin's Creed 2 Will Sell 8.5 Million Units By March

A post over at IndustryGamers quotes Stern Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia saying that he believes Assassin's Creed 2 will sell 8.5 million units by March 2010. Considering that it managed to sell almost two million in its first week alone, this estimate doesn't seem so far off, but if it's true the upstart sequel will outperform its older brother by nearly a third.
While December got off to a slow start for the game due to competition from Modern Warfare 2, Bhatia says that the game's sales are tracking ahead of expectations currently.
"...we expect the title to sell through close to 8.5M units by March of 2010 (up from prior expectation of 7.5M units). For the December quarter, we have raised our unit expectation from ~5.5 million units to 6.5M units," he stated. "Recall, the game got off to a slightly slower start due to competion from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but subsequently picked up good momentum."
While this is great news for Ubisoft, the article continues by pointing out that the company will have a strong March quarter with other upcoming releases like Splinter Cell Conviction and RUSE, followed by the prequel/sequel Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.
