Video - Hellgate: Tokyo
In these tough times, when an MMO doesn't get the traction you hoped it would, what can you do? Well, if you're anything like Namco-Bandai, you decide to outsource a remake of the game to a Korean studio, since that's what they've done with the Hellgate MMO series. Some of you might remember the Hellgate: London MMO launch and collapse that happened a year or so ago with Flagship Studios. Well apparently the Korean Studio behind the distribution of Starcraft in Korea, along with a few other MMO titles, picked up the remains of the Hellgate MMO franchise and massaged it into a new series called Hellgate: Resurrection.
The first chapter in this series seems to be Hellgate: Tokyo, whose debut trailer is featured above. Apparently the studio took the basic engine and structure of the London game, and have worked it into a Tokyo setting, which probably appeals a little more to an eastern audience. The game is starting beta soon and plans to launch the game in Korea starting in March, if all goes according to plan. No word yet on a release outside of Korea, but I'm guessing that all depends on whether or not the game receives a bigger player base than it did stateside. I'm not holding my breath until Hellgate freezes over though.
