UK Government Investing Millions In Video Game Industry

There's an interesting article at GamePolitics talking about how the UK government will be investing approximately £3.5 million from their Strategic Investment Fund in order to grow the video game sector there:
The funding, which could grow to upwards of £10.0 million in total with additional funding from European Regional Development Fund Initiatives and the North West Development Agency, will be used to create special prototype centers at the University of Abertay in Dundee, Scotland and in Manchester's MediaCity UK.It is hoped that the investment will assist in the creation of 30 new companies with some 400 new career opportunities over the next three years.
The industry as well as various advocacy groups are expectantly excited about this announcement, as this represents not just a validation of the medium but also the chance to grow the industry as a whole. It will be interesting to watch this and see how this develops into concrete, tangible results as the program is rolled out in its entirety.
