Opinionation: Black Friday / Cyber Monday Afterthoughts

BlackFriday.jpg

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday now behind us, I'm just starting to realize how much stuff I've purchased in the past few days. The disgusting amount of sales seen at nearly every brick and mortar retail store and various online sites have brought us some interesting deals in an effort to kick off the shopping/holiday season. Going into this year I swore, much like every year, that I was going to stick to a reasonable budget (which I almost did) and only buy titles which I had planned to (which I almost did). It was great to use this opportunity to catch up on a bunch of recently released games like Left 4 Dead 2, and even better to get deals on games that I meant to pick up earlier this year (The Klonoa Wiimake for $9? Insanity!), but I did make a few unexpected purchases.

Did I really need to buy that heavily discounted Tekken 6: Wireless Fighting Stick Edition from Amazon yesterday? Probably not, but the hardware came highly recommended by some fighting genre fans of mine and I questioned if I would be able to see it's pricetag cut in half again any time soon. Another on the spot purchase was Batman: Arkhem Asylum. It was like the hype for this game was following me everywhere. Spending time with it this weekend I'm mostly glad I caved in, especially anytime Scarecrow wanted to mess with Batman's brain but what's the deal with the character designs of this game? Every male character in this game looks overly muscled to the point that I thought I picked up a Batman Of Finland game, but nobody has any semblance of anything down there. That's a topic for another post, but wanted to put some feelers out there and see what you dear readers picked up at the recent sales. Did you miss out on any killer deals? Did you still go out or did you stay in and shop online? Did you show more restraint than I did and actually stuck with your budget? Hit the comments and share your thoughts!

I avoid brick and mortar stores during Black Friday because I don't want to see the inside of a jail cell. Crowds of ravening people and myself do not mix.

However, Steam got me this year:

Farcry 2
Trine (I'd been waiting for it to hit $10)
Lucidity

All together I believe I spent only $25 or so, though. More than I planned.

The only game deal I took advantage of was the $50 Rock Band bundle on Black Friday from Walmart.

I did come across a very funny "deal" though, the Wii selling for $198 instead of $199 on black friday. I'm sorry but just keep the price the same if that's going to be the sale.

Family tradition to do Black Friday.

The only games I bought were at GameStop with the "Buy 2 used, get 1 Free" deal. I was able to tweak the deal since I purchased Mario Galaxy and Animal Crossing. Mario Galaxy came with Wii Music free, and so I essentially bought 2 and got 2 free. Other free game was Muramasa.

Purchased all games for friends and family. Least I know the kids my mom babysits (and sadly my dad) will get something out of Wii Music.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
