FTC Scores Video Game Industry High

The Federal Trade Commission has released a report whereby it calls the video game industry the strongest in self-regulation of its media, based on how its advertisements are seen and its work with the ESRB.
Denial rates at brick and mortar stores was also fairly high, though Toys 'r' Us seems to be lagging in that department (with a reported 56% denial rate). The FTC's fears in the arena are among online shopping however, where age cannot be monitored with the use of gift cards and such--an area where they are asking the film, music, and video game industry to put a bit more focus.
This led to the Entertainment Software Association to reasonably cheer, alongside stating that this was a strong reason for self-control of the industry, which I read as alluding to various huffing and puffing by the government over the years.
While I personally never pay much attention to the ESRB ratings, I suppose it is good to know that the powers that be consider it a benefit to parents and people making such decisions for their children.
