Final Fantasy VIII To Hit Playstation Store

Oh memories.

This past year saw the rerelease of Final Fantasy VII in the Playstation Store, which seemed to sell rather well. Continuing in the fashion of providing retrospectives of their rather lengthy series, an e-mail from Sony revealed that Final Fantasy VIII will be added to the same service soon, having already been been available in Japan. The price point is likely to be the same as FF7, which was $9.99.

It will be curious to see how/if this trend will continue, particularly as the series continues, the opinions seem to start to scatter as to which game was actually worth playing. VIII seemed to create polar opposite opinions, particularly concerning the draw system and romantic plotline.

Best FF. Period. ;P

The draw system was horrible, but everything else was okay. This is actually my least favorite of the PS-era Final Fantasy games, but I'll still end up picking up the digital copy (and selling my physical copy).

I have very fond memories of this game. I liked the minigame with cards.

I'm looking forward to it. It's one of my favorite games in the series. I just hope they release it before Christmas, when I receive my shiny new PSP Go.

Yay.

I agree with SZK and Sammy. I'm not really polarized. I liked it, it's not the best in the series but it's certainly worth a play. Be great for a long trip with your PSP.

Draw was incredibly tedious, but it was supposed to be filled in with the easily-overlooked item creation system. All those m-stone pieces players ignored were supposed to fill your quota of Thunder without having to draw. My first time through that game, I screwed myself by using guardian forces all the time and ignoring real strategies. Lots of people complain about the contrivedness of the orphanage scene, but overlook the mind-numbing complexity of the villain's backstory. In short, it's a deep game with a shallow surface, and I hope people give it a second go.

I don't suppose there's *any* hope they've sped up those summon sequences?

SZK said:

@Tiny: If they did that, the window for using GF Boost would shorten, meaning less maximum button presses, and therefore less attack damage. I think you're out of luck. ;p
