Deals: Indie Fighter Zeno Clash 66% Off On Steam
This has been a great year for two genres above all: First-Person Shooters and Fighting Games. Fans of either have received some pretty stellar titles to keep them distracted, including the unbelievably popular Modern Warfare 2 and such gems as Street Fighter IV and BlazBlue. What you may not realize, however, is that 2009 is also an excellent year for fans of both, as last spring brought us one of the first widely successful First Person Fighters, in the form of an indie title by the Chile-based ACE Team, known as Zeno Clash.
Zeno Clash puts gamers in the role of Ghat, a member of the multispecies family-commune led by the mysterious creature known as Father-Mother. The game's beginning sees you run out on a rail by this kinship, whereupon you're left to explore the bizarre and unique fantasy world, using your fists, combos, and limited weaponry to defend yourself and your adopted sister as you attempt to find out the truth behind your falling out with the group you started with.
The most brilliant aspect of Zeno Clash is definitely its art style. With a taste for twisting the organic with alt-physics similar to Labyrinth, the world you'll explore has been admittedly inspired by the symbolic paintings of Hieronymus Bosch and the 'punk fantasy' art style of John Blanche, which left the developers unsure of their place in a market stuffed with washed-out palettes and reality-based level design. So far they've had some fair successes, and they're celebrating an award-winning year by letting the game go for just a bit over $5, but only until tomorrow, December 3.
