Stonesense: Making Dwarf Fortress Playable Since 2009

view-pic-img-3.jpg

Dwarf Fortress is easily the most complicated game I can think of for the PC. Seriously, that game has more buttons than a kanji touch typing RTS. The game is a lot of damn fun once you figure out the menus and figure out how to issue commands. The first time one of my dwarves freaked out, got possessed and created a little idol for people to worship, I was in love.

Now, what else makes this game nearly impossible to pick up? the cryptic display. Seriously, the ascii only goes so far. There are some nice sprite packs out there, but they never really feel... complete. Enter Stonesense, the isometric visualizer. It renders Dwarf Fortress in beautiful 3/4 view pixel glory. Hotness. Now, it is a huge CPU suck on an already pretty hefty game and the sprite set is incomplete at best, but frankly, I think you'll all manage.
