Dante's Inferno Wants You To Tell People To Go To Hell

Seriously. I'm convinced that right before Dante's Inferno actually comes out, they're going to offer free DLC if you sacrifice a goat or something. Anyway, Visceral Games has announced a Facebook app called "Go To Hell" to promote their upcoming Dante's Inferno. With the push of a button, you can send anyone or anything to any one of the nine circles of hell. It launched today on Facebook, and is able to share data across MySpace, iGoogle and Twitter.
"This app is awesome! Not only will it be a blast to see who the world sends to hell, but it's also a great opportunity to take Dante's notion of the 9 circles of hell and make it current and relevant for people who may not be familiar with the poem," said executive producer Jonathan Knight. "Let the damning begin."
Great. Because you're not a biased source at all. The app allows you to send them to either Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud or Treachery, where you can then choose to punish or absolve your victim. Though if you're going to send them to hell, why would you absolve them? Seems like a wasted trip. Oh, and the "Go To Hell" app also comes with a "Hell Browser" that offers a snapshot of all the activity in hell on a daily basis. You can see who takes the top spot as the most deplored evil demon. Why do I think Sarah Palin or Elizabeth Hasselbeck will be one of them? Oh, yeah, if you're not on Facebook, they're also going to be releasing the app onto the iPhone so you can tell people to go to hell on the go.
Sigh. Maybe it's because I never studied marketing, but each new promotional stunt EA comes up with for this game seems wackier than the next. Can't wait to see how this one goes wrong!
