Working The Red Carpet At The Style Savvy Preview

Today, Nintendo held a preview party for the upcoming DS title Style Savvy, and held it at the Herald Square JCPenney, in what I will always call A&S Plaza. I'm sorry. There was a competitive fashion show where mothers and daughters were selected to shop for a specific style of outfit in JCPenney, then walk the runway where they were judged by Nintendo's Denise Kaigler, JCPenney's Cynthia Maxwell, and fashion designer Charlotte Ronson. Ronson will also have some of her 2009 line made available as DLC for Style Savvy when it launches.
The winning mom and daughter got a pink DSi and a copy of the game as well as a $500 gift card to JCPenney. While they were all out choosing their outfits for the runway, a stylist was plucking women and girls out of the audience to offer them makeover style suggestions. I'm sorry, but that fur jacket she picked for that poor little girl (see the shot in the gallery) was monstrous. I may not know much about fashion, but I know what's wrong. And that was just wrong. Then again, this woman's been on Oprah, so maybe I'm wrong? There were also raffle drawings to win DSi's and copies of Style Savvy as well as the opportunity to pose on the red carpet like a real celebrity.
After all the festivities, I was able to get my hands on the game and experience it for myself (with the help of a lovely Nintendo employee who walked me through the basics). I was able to help out a customer in my store who was looking for an outfit, and following her guidelines of what she was looking for and what she could spend, I picked out some pieces, and had her try them on. She popped into the dressing room and came out loving it! Sale! Then I entered a runway contest and totally won that, too! Who says I've got no style?
Style Savvy lets you open up your own boutique and stock it with whatever items you choose. You can select from various designers, and there will be seasonal changes based on your DS's internal clock. There will also be special one-day-only deals that if you miss, you'll have to wait a year, or try to find in someone else's shop. That's right, you can wirelessly visit your friends' shops, or even just random shops over Nintendo WFC. And new collections and designers will become available as you play through the game.
I have to admit this game seems pretty girly, but honestly? I had a lot of fun just poking around the available clothing to pick out an outfit for my customer and then the model for the runway contest, even in my brief hands-on time. The graphics are nice, and there's a lot of detail in the clothing. You can even layer multiple pieces together. You can also customize your character, but unfortunately, it's going to have to be a girl. Still, Namco added boy cheerleaders to the sequel to We Cheer, so maybe by Style Savvy 2, there'll be some male models! The game will be out November 2, and look for my review coming up soon!

AAAAAHHHH!!! I wish i could've been there! please come to SF! thanks for posting photos! and don't worry, i know many guys (even straight) that played the demo and they enjoyed it!
Thanks for all the info. not my cup of tea, but it is something to think about.
As always you're looking good. glad to see you were bold and broke ground by not using the gay uniform(black t-shirt and jeans).
kisses
Yay! I've been looking forward to seeing your take on the event since you first announced you were attending!
I don't normally care about designer brands, but everything I see about this game makes me want it. Maybe I'm just sick of having to impose my own fashion score on customizable games like WoW or Fable, and I can't wait for the opportunity to have a game that challenges me with its very existence to be... Style Savvy!
...Or maybe I'm just a dork :D
That game I'll admit does have my somewhat interested lol. Also you look pretty smokin in the pic lol, looks like fun!
That's a great picture of you, nice pose!
Marry me
Style Savvy?
More like Style Shitty!
Horrid horrid choices in pretty much every photo. I feel so sorry for these 'winners'.
Btw, my brother is single.. how do you feel about moving to Melbourne, Australia?
Nice ass!
