Video: Ryo Hazuki Looking For Sailors In Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
Shenmue fans rejoice! No, Sega didn't announce Shenmue 3, but they are at least acknowledging Shenmue as one of their top franchises with the announcement that Ryo Hazuki will be a part of the ensemble cast in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. And yes, he even gets to drive a forklift.
There's an interesting bit about the forklift actually, since the trailer shows Ryo swapping from a motorcycle to the forklift mid-race. I wonder if any other characters will have alternate vehicles for a mid-race switcheroo. Is vehicle swapping a power-up that you can collect? Or maybe it's an ability you can use at any time like character switching in Mario Kart Double Dash. There's no word from Sega yet on how that will be a part of the gameplay.
Seeing Ryo in the game gives me hope that some other unexpected Sega characters may make an appearance. Alex Kid and Kid Chameleon would fit quite well with the game's cast, and I'm always in a mood for more Vyse from Skies of Arcadia. And who doesn't think it would be awesome to ride around as Azel from Panzer Dragoon Saga?
On a related note, two characters that we know unfortunately will not make the cut are Toejam and Earl. Greg Johnson, co-creator of the duo, has posted on the Sega forums about Sega's unwillingness to pay for the license. Considering that he didn't see a dime from the virtual console Toejam and Earl releases, it doesn't exactly speak well of Sega that they won't shell out the licensing for any new games while exploiting the old ones for free.

Cry Cry Cry! Ryo Hazuki!
Why don't they just Make Shenmue III so i can play it, enjoy it, finally have an ending, and die a happy man.
I loved the world of Shenmue.
'Why don't they just Make Shenmue III so i can play it, enjoy it, finally have an ending, and die a happy man.'
They'll have to revive the series completely i.e. remake / port I-II on the Wii and or 360's successors [I simply don't see Sony with any chance of having it]. Because bringing out III simply now would be instant disaster [it needs to re/gain its fanbase and momentum first]! ;-)
I am sooooo happy about this though. Made my [rainy] day yesterday. Definitely made the game a MUST BUY. ^-^
Oh, and NaviFairy, the forklift is Ryo's special move, just like Super Sonic is Sonic's.
Confirmed via the unveiling article on Sega's own official site[s] yesterday. ;-)
Normally I'd say that Ryo being in this game is hope for a Shenmue-colored future, but I'm not holding my breath. They already teased me with Ulala and no more Space Channel 5. Bastards.

You must not have been paying attention to recent Sega developments, they've been talking about getting a space on the PSN dedicated to Dreamcast ports for digital download. I'd say Sony is looking like the most likely candidate for Shenmue 1&2 if it ever happens.
