Retail Tales: Persona, Devil Survivor Summon Sales

I'm not exactly sure why, but the Shin Megami Tensei series has been really clicking with me all of a sudden. My current DS obsession is the tremendous tactic/turn-based RPG hybrid Devil Survivor and continued exposure to it has made me seek out as much of the series that I can get my dirty little hands on. But it appears that I'm not the only one catching the SMT-fever. In their latest financial report, Atlus broke down exactly which territories and which have been have been connecting with players the most with some surprising results...
North America
Persona 4 (PS2) - 110,000 (150,000 expected)
Devil Survivor (DS) - 40,000 (25,000 expected)
Japan
Persona 4 (PS2) - 300,000 (180,000 expected)
Devil Summoner 2 (PS2) - 180,000 (120,000 expected)
Devil Survivor (DS) - 110,000 (100,000 expected)
Persona (PSP) - 160,000 (50,000 expected)
Growlanser (PSP) - 50,000 (40,000 expected)
I was under the impression that many more people have picked up the critically celebrated Persona 4 in the United States and didn't realize that the company had such humble expectations for Devil Survivor here in the States. The biggest shocker had to be the Persona PSP remake's Japanese sales. Selling 110,000 copies over expectations is sure to making a lot of people happy. Unfortunately we'll have to wait a little longer before we can expect to discover how it did over here, and even then those numbers won't likely include sales from Sony's PlayStation Network.

I honestly don't know why so many people would refuse to pick up Persona 4, and then complain that the PS3 doesn't play PS2 games.
I've been in love with MegaTen games for a few years now, and am patiently waiting for Atlus to localize that PSP port of Devil Survivor they had a few years back in Japan.
I tried to buy the DS Devil Survivor and the PSP remake of Persona from Amazon, but surprise, surprise they won't ship to Europe again. So annoying.
I have Devil Survivor on DS and have been pulling my hair out on the Kudlak battle with Mari (and her special handbag).
The bastard keeps escaping or I "accidentally" kill him. But otherwise I've been having a fun time with the game.
If you want to get the game without the idiotic regional restrictions try www.play-asia.com - they're fairly cheap and deliver anywhere (that's where I got Devil Survivor from). Also try dvdboxoffice.com - same deal there, but no postage charge.
wow, so they really expected Devil Survivor to sell nothing. Glad to see it did so well.
I'm kinda sad about Persona 4 not selling as well, it really is an excellent game, I blame the voice acting in the promos, that was just terrible and almost made me not want the game.
Could Persona 4's lower sales have something to do with its distribution? I can't speak for the US, but I know here in Canada the game wasn't being carried by Wal-Mart, Future Shop, or Best Buy in my area. I got the game for Christmas and my brother told me he got it from EB Games.
I tried Play-Asia too, but they were out of stock or something.
I'll try them again. Mind you, they're a lot more expensive than Amazon.
