EA Launches Comic Imprint With IDW

EA announced today that it had signed a deal with IDW Publishing to launch two new comic series under a new EA Comics imprint, starting in January. The two new monthly, ongoing series will be based on Army of Two and Dragon Age: Origins. And in keeping with today's modern times, they'll not only be found in comic shops, but in digital versions on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
"We've seen an increasing number of video game tie-ins with comics over the last few years. This marks another step in our strategy for extending EA's wholly-owned game properties to new media. It is exhilarating to be working with the comic book creators directly," said Mike Quigley, Group Vice President, Global Marketing, EA Games Label.
Interestingly, EA will completely fund and manage the creative production of the comics, with IDW handling the printing and distribution. So I guess if they're not true to the source, EA only has themselves to blame!
Army of Two will be written by Peter Milligan (X-Men, Batman, Hellblazer) with "hot newcomer" Dexter Soy doing the art with covers by Chester Ocampo. The initial story arc, "Across The Border," will take place between the first Army of Two game and its sequel. Dragon Age will be written by the controversial (at least around here) author Orson Scott Card. Humberto Ramos (who I love) is doing covers, but interior art and story details have not yet been finalized.

I liked the first Army of Two game, so I might pick up the comic. I definately wont be picking up Dragon Age. I wont give a penny of my money to OSC.
