Beneath A Steel Sky On Track For 20k Sales On iPhone

Revolution Software has announced that their iPhone port of Beneath a Steel Sky is on-track to hit twenty thousand sales in its first month of availability. The company has also stated that they anticipate the title will make a total of 100k sales during the lifetime of its release.
These are pretty compelling numbers for a title that was released in 1994, went freeware in 2003, and has to compete with the myriad number of applications on the iTunes store. If their estimates for the lifetime sales are correct, it will also give healthy competition to the title's original numbers too.
With successes like this and the various old LucasArts adventure titles making their way to Steam and the iPhone as well, it's looking more and more obvious that there is still a market for decent games to be revamped with releases on modern hardware. One only has to look at the success of GOG.com to see that gamers don't necessarily need the best graphics from modern games when a ten-year old title with a fantastic story is still totally viable. (In related news, which VorpalBunny will discuss later, I'm so thrilled for the re-release of Planescape: Torment!)
