Bayonetta Gets A Perfect 40
Never ask a lady her age.
Luckily, it's not age that's the latest reveal about Bayonetta, nor is it shoe size--the deadly-fabulous diva is the now among only twelve games ever to receive a 40 out of 40 score from the prestigious Japanese game mag Famitsu.
To get a better idea of the scope of the old gal's accomplishment, consider that Famitsu's been handing out scores since 1988, when it was named after the Famicom/NES game system. The distinctive 40-point rating system is culled from a panel of four respected editors each giving the game their own score out of 10. And, unlike most Western publications who have the publisher-pressure-by-proxy of Metacritic looming over them, they're not afraid to shame a flawed game by scoring it a 6 or worse.
It's true that reviews aren't everything, but when a unanimous perfect score sets you alongside such timeless classics as Vagrant Story, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Nintendogs, it's got to mean something.
The localization of the next opus from Devil May Cry's producers shouldn't take long, since the trailers have featured English dialogue from the very start. We gamers can expect to be backflipping bullets into a shower of glittering halos early next year.

Didn't the Xbox 360 version get a 40/40 and the PS3 version get a 38/40? If thats the case I think it deserves an "OH SNAP!".
Even though I don't take Famitsu's word as gospel (nor do I with any gaming magazine/site) I do respect them a lot more than most BECAUSE they're not afraid and BECAUSE of their lineage. And I'm already pretty hyped for this game so hearing this puts a bit more faith in it for me. This is looking better and better by the day!
Yeah, in general they give the scores they think are accurate.
Except in the cases where they give a massively-hyped game a few extra points so as to "not disappoint the readers."
Wow. Another game as fabulous as Vagrant Story...I'll believe it when I see it.
It's worth noting that last year the headline would have been, "Super Smash Bros. Brawl among only seven games to get a perfect 40."
Seems the standard's dropping?
