BattleForge Adds Support For Player-Created Maps In New Patch

I've already gushed about EA Phenomic's BattleForge, but yesterday's update brought with it a new surprise out of left field that drastically improved the entirety of the game: a map editor!
A staple tool of any good RTS, this new addition allows players to create their own campaign maps which can be shared and played by anyone else. While they return none of the usual in-game rewards for playing the regular or PvP maps, the map editor will further BattleForge's extensibility and let creative players manufacture their own scenarios for others to experience.
Blizzard's Starcraft and Warcraft 3 games (to give just two popular examples) were significantly benefited by their included map editor, and the Battle.net matchmaking service is full of maps, even to this day, that drastically change the core games beyond how they were originally. In fact, a Warcraft 3 multiplayer map, Defense of the Ancients, was the inspiration behind several recently released or upcoming titles like Demigod, League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth.
For a free-to-play game, the team behind BattleForge has been impressively diligent in adding more and more content, and this addition to the title will let the players themselves create their own scenarios to fight in. Personally, I'm extremely excited about this and I can't wait for someone to come up with an awesome tower defense map!
