Video: Dream-Build-Play Winners Announced - Dust Takes Gold
The Dream-Build-Play competition has come to a close with 4 winning games emerging as the top of the crowd. Dream-Build-Play is Microsoft's annual indie game competition where developers can submit their games made in the XNA framework in hopes of earning some big money prizes.
The big winner this year was Dean Dodrill's beautiful Dust: An Elysian Tail which won the grand prize of $40,000. Dust got some attention here at Gay Gamer a month ago for it's beautiful hand-drawn animation and fast-paced, side-scrolling action. Other winners included Max Blastronaut earning the second prize of $20,000, Rotor'scope - The Secret of the Endless Energy earning the third prize of $10,000, and HurricaneX2 Evolution earning the fourth prize of $5,000.
For the first Dream-Build-Play competition the winner also won an Xbox Live Arcade publishing contract, which saw fruition earlier this year with the release of The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai. But both for the '08 competition and this year that has not been part of the deal. The possibility of an XBLA release of any of these games isn't completely ruled out, since the competition mentions that they "could have the opportunity to publish their games on Xbox LIVE Arcade," but there is no guarantee. Even if they don't see XBLA release, they can still be made available through the Xbox Live Indie Games channel, like last year's Dream-Build-Play winner CarneyVale Showtime.
Regardless of how the games are eventually released, they all look amazing. Congratulations to all of this year's winners. Follow after the break to check out the trailers of this year's Dream-Build-Play winners.
