TGS 09: Yakuza 4 Trailer Debuts, US Fans Still Hopeless As Ever
I would like to think that I learn from my experiences, making sure that the mistakes I've made in my past remain there. But some lessons are harder to put into practice than others. For example, back in the Dreamcast days, I loved Shenmue. I couldn't get enough of the game's amazing scope, arcade game cameos, and yes... I even fed that cat everyday! I especially loved the second entry in the series, taking in the beautiful sights of Wan Chai and eventually making my way to luscious Guilin. But even when I was playing these games I knew that there was no way that I'd ever see completion of Yu Suzuki's truly epic story. It was impossible that either title could generate the sales needed to propel the series farther.
Fast forward to two years ago when I first started playing the Yakuza series on the ps2. I loved the authentic atmosphere and hardboiled cop drama, but all the time the familiar feeling returned to me. For whatever reason, as much as I (and many others) loved the games, I think everyone knew that today's third-party Sega had a finite amount of patience for the not-so-sleeper cult hit. Since the series' second flop in America, Sega has chosen to continue the series in its homeland with a full fledged PS3 sequel and a bizarre spin-off title based in the 17th century. The trend looks to continue as the fourth stunningly looking title in the series. But that won't stop us from taking a look at a new trailer for it that debuted at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
It saddens me that something this polished and beautiful won't get a chance to connect with non-Japanese speaking audiences, but I guess there's always hope that someone will help continue telling the Dojima Family story, right? Or maybe it's time that I give up the dream?

I'm still dreaming of a Shenmue I-III revival on the Wii and 360 [or their successors] tbh [yes, shoot me now].
And damn is the Yazuka engine a tease for a revival on the later platform... -_-
Oh well, Ryo may very well be in S&SSR, a cameo's a start meguess.
