Rumor: Team ICO Talks About Brining Ico And Colossus To PS3

Recently it was announced that both PS2 God of War games would be getting a PS3 upgrade later this year in the form of God of War Collection, bringing more polygons and higher resolution textures to Kratos' previous adventures in time to help hype God of War 3. Now don't get me wrong, the God of War games are great, excellent even, but aren't there a few other PS2 instant classics that would truly be a sight to behold in HD? Perhaps even two that share a developer who also happens to have an upcoming game which PS3 remakes could help to promote? That's right, it's Team ICO! And it seems like the scenario of HD Shadow of the Colossus and Ico remakes isn't as far-fetched as it may sound.

In two interviews when asked about the possibility of a PS3 Ico/Shadow of the Colossus compilation disc, Team ICO's Fumito Ueda gave some very promising remarks. In an interview with 1UP he seemed to be cautiously hinting at the idea.

"Initially, I didn't want to consider that. I always thought they were designed for PS2 and should stay there. But lately, I've been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to other platforms to reach more users."

But later in an interview with Kotaku, Ueda was a bit more open about Team ICO's plans.

"I do have an interest in that. Next week, I'll have a meeting [about the possibility] ... But it might not be so easy, because, with both titles we really stretched the limits of the PS2. It's complex. So it's not such an easy transfer to the PS3. But I want to discuss it."

A meeting next week! But wait, that interview happened last Friday, so that means the meeting is this week! It could be that Team ICO is deciding the fate of an Ico/Shadow of the Colossus PS3 port/remake right now. Well, maybe not right now since you have to account for time zone differences, but you get the idea.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are both already beautiful games on the PS2, so I can't say that remakes are entirely necessary from a technical standpoint (though I admit they would be greatly appreciated). But then I think of all of the PS3 and PS3 slim owners that can't play PS2 games on their consoles, and the urgent necessity for a port or remake of these games becomes abundantly clear. So please, Sony and Team ICO, make these games for the PS3. If not for us, the fans, at the very least think of the children. How else will they learn to drag mute girls around with them or stab rare and endangered species in the face (or foot, or back, or chest)?

Wow, I would love this. I played both, but never finished either of them (a habit I have since kicked). I'd love the oppurtunity to try again and get the full story.

I like the idea of an HD version of Shadow of the Colossus, but I'm also worried that we're going to start seeing a ton of PS2 games being resold on the PS3. This bothers me because a lot of people have PS3's that no longer are capable of playing PS2 games, and it's looking like instead of trying to find a way to bring that B/C back, Sony is going to just start reselling games we've already bought in order to turn another profit. Sure, the graphics will be a little crisper in some cases, but I'd rather play the game I've already purchased (I do have a B/C PS3, so I'm safe, but I feel bad for other people who can't say the same).

I really did wish it had B/C on it

I have games i would like to casually play without having to unplug and reorganize my game systems just to play. I would buy PS2 games from the PlayStation store that i didn't own if they sold them. (and the option to re-buy for convenience of no disc.)

I couldn't afford the PS3 originally and by the time it was affordable they stripped out things i wish they hadn't.

Currently the PS# feels silly to have a PS2 memory card organizer and PS2 hard drive addon in the PS Store and the knowledge that even made emulation software and patented it. ..not to forget that PS1 implementation is there leaving the PS2 gap. HELLO!

I feel all they have to do is drop it on us and with the understanding some games wont work.

Maybe i'm alone in all of this and i know the world wont end without it, but if it wasn't such a big deal then why do people constantly bring it up? :-/

..and yeah i'm aware that its all about business and money.

If they sold it for a fair price like the GoW re-releases I'd be interested. I never had a PS2, so it's all cool for me.

I do understand the complaints for those who still have the PS2 discs, though.

I was fortunate enough to get a 60 gig PS3 w/ BC on the cheap, when Sony was eliminating that model and a retailer was offering a sweet rebate. I traded in my PS2, but would have never done that without BC--primarily because of Ico and Colossus, both of which I replay annually. That said, I'd be interested in purchasing them for the PS3 if Sony were to port them as a collectors' set. Who am I kidding? I'd buy them separately, as well. I'd buy them in chapters. I'd buy an overpriced deluxe version with a soundtrack of gratuitous remixes all 2 or 3 pieces of music between the two games. Good grief, I'm such a Team Ico slut!
