Preview: Mega Man Battle Network: Operate Shooting Star
I may be the only who cares about this. After the Mega Man Starforce series ended, Capcom announced an upcoming DS re-make/re-release of Mega Man Battle Network, and hopefully the subsequent series. The Mega Man Network has been gathering details from CoroCoro scans and the Japanese website and the actual nature of the remake is starting to become clear. It will be almost identical to the Game Boy Advance version in terms of gameplay, battle system, and graphics--with obvious DS improvements like touch screen menus and maps. The biggest change though is in the story. A new character named Clock Genius will open a rift in time, causing the Mega Man from Mega Man Star Force, Geo Stelar, to meet with MegaMan.EXE and Lan Hikari from Mega Man Battle Network, creating a slightly different tangent universe, similar to the recent Star Trek reboot. It's currently not clear how the two Mega Mans will affect the gameplay. The game will feature online battle chip trading, but whether or not it will also feature a Mega Man Star Force-like online battling feature is unknown.

You're not the only one who cares. I care too!
Looks really contrived from the screenshots, with both the net world and the laser word (or whatever they called it in starforce).
Looks like the series is finally back on track.
Yay, more MMBN!
It's going to be so nice going back to the 9-panel. I've missed it very much. I hope the game gets some perks for having a Boktai game inserted as well.
Still more MMBN fans crawl out of the woodwork!
I've actually heard of this before, just not as detailed, but it makes me excited.
Like Kybar, I definitely missed the old battle-scheme, so I'm really looking forward to that.
I've been pretty disappointed with this whole thing since I first heard about it - I was upset that Capcom was yet again crapping out a MegaMan game with the absolute least effort possible. Re-use the same assets, battle system and story with only very minor changes to shoehorn in the newer MegaMan into the story so they don't have to kill off an IP. There's just a point where you want more from a series you've been so loyal to.
I've been a fan of the MegaMan games since I was old enough to hold the controller and I've purchased and beaten nearly every game released in North America for for years - even when they sucked. MegaMan 9 was great in spirit and fun to play, but the fact that they re-used so many assets and then - after only a few short months - stopped supporting it with DLC all-together?
I dunno - I'm still bitter over the fact that they discontinued and then totally ditched everything that was good about Powered Up in their latter games. And Maverick Hunter X, of course. Both were fantastic games that I (and I'm sure anyone else who bought them) thoroughly enjoyed. Powered Up was the real loss here, however, because with so many neat and welcomed features (genius stage creator, playable boss characters, "downloadable" content, beautiful graphics), it's a shame that NOTHING was carried over into MegaMan 9. You can download playable ProtoMan who actually isn't that bad - but that's where it ends. No playable bosses, no stage creator, "retro" graphics, and even ProtoMan mode isn't really full like Powered Up's was - he had no story and no shop, making for a rather limited experience.
All that aside though, I have really fond memories of the Battle Network series and this might be kind of interesting - if only for what it could mean for future games. I'm going to withhold judgment for now, but I can already feel the crazy fanboy welling up inside of me - damn you Capcom!

YES.
I came into the series late, at #6.
After I played through all the others and then starforce, but it wasn't the same. I wanted sauce, and sauce was given. Yay!
