Analyst: Guitar Hero 5 Selling Well

I have to admit that it is a little crazy to me that Guitar Hero 5 has already come out, especially since it feels like Guitar Hero: World Tour was just released relatively recently. I'd suspect that Activision pushed it out to market to combat the Beatles: Rock Band juggernaut, but that's just pure speculation on my part. If it seems like the band game genre has become a little saturated, well, it kind of has. But Stern Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia claims that Guitar Hero 5 launched to solid sales.

"While timing and SKU differences make data difficult to compare to last year, our checks on Guitar Hero 5, released yesterday, indicate the game is meeting initial sales expectations at retail," he said. "We believe investor expectations for GH5 are low given the music genre of games has been under pressure all year."

Of course, it could be the fact that there is currently a promotion where buying Guitar Hero 5 also gets you a free copy of Guitar Hero: Van Halen. That might be driving some extra sales. However, it'll be interesting to see what the drop off is like after next Wednesday when The Beatles: Rock Band drops. I know that I, personally, haven't played Guitar Hero since I felt like the song list in III let me down and turned me into a full-on Rock Band convert. Still, even if Guitar Hero 5 falters, Activision's still got DJ Hero and Band Hero in the pipeline!

I'll betcha it's because of all those Nirvana fans that just ~had~ to pick this up to play as Kurt Kobain!

I don't know why companys lie. The game is clearly not selling well. 5+ minutes to find on-line matchs and career takes even longer. And that's at all different times of the day. Clearly not many are playing this.

This is the first Guitar Hero game I haven't bought day one. I have every other one, including the abortion that was Aerosmith, but I just can't bring myself to pick this up at it's $60 price point.

Maybe 3 months from now when it is in the bargain bin with Madden.

The Beatles on the other hand......

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
