Video: Final Fantasy XIII Demo Gameplay

With many people still anxiously awaiting any sort of news on a release date for the next title in line from Square Enix's well known franchise, Final Fantasy XIII, any news is good news, since it can show us just how much closer we are to getting our hands on the game. The trailer above has the director of the game, Motomu Toriyama, giving viewers a glimpse of the battle system that is going into the final version of the game.

Final Fantasy XIII will be using the Active Time Battle system that has been more or less a staple of the series for years. From the video we can see that while you can see the enemies on the screen as you move about the environment, there still is a separate screen for when the player actually engages in the battle. The graphics look fantastic, and it seems as though they have sped up the action of the battle. Much like the previous Final Fantasy, this one allows you to give you teammates a role in the battle which they will follow (offense, defense, healer), though the made no mention of a gambit system being used to do it. Overall the battles look fast and frantic with plenty of action going on and hopefully less repetition (but there will be some, after all it is an RPG).

Gametrailers also has up a two part interview with both the director, Motomu Toriyama, and the producer, Yoshinori Kitase, of the game which you can see after the jump.
