Video: Dark Void Hover-Up Fun From GamesCon 2009
The vertical gameplay in Capcom and Airtight Games' recently-delayed Dark Void impressed me on first sight, although just pondering the notion of being under Gears-style attack from three full dimensions makes my trigger finger sweat.
Now Capcom has added an enhancement to the vertical concept: the hover-up ability that, in addition to flight mode, looks pretty flippin' sweet.
The new short-range vertical action of Dark Void's jetpack-based hover ability, which you'll rarely if ever be without, reminds me of a less-spazzy Gunvalkyrie. There's something about the ability to hover above the mayhem that makes the more horizontal levels look wickedly enjoyable. Hovering and flying makes for a much more versatile shooter experience, as well as a refreshingly newish mechanic that should give Dark Void a more enjoyable learning curve.
