Rumor: Sony "Slashing" Prices On PS3s, TVs

After a particularly bad quarter, it's no surprise that Sony's looking to get their machines moving off store shelves again. Now folks in Australia have gotten word that the company is planning on cutting prices on all their home entertainment equipment: Sony Bravia TVs, blu ray players, and the Playstation 3. It's not a stretch to think that cuts could be coming worldwide, as well.
Another price cut for the PS3 has been long rumored, with some executives threatening extortion in order to get the price of the console down. Most people expected a cut at E3 this year, but with no mention of it then, people were left to speculate again. Now the murmurs have started surfacing, so expect the dance to go another round until Sony finally knocks a couple bills off the box.
This season would be a pretty good time for Sony to sell consoles, with a few major exclusives this holiday season, including Uncharted 2 and Ratchet and Clank, and major third party games like Assassin's Creed and Modern Warfare 2 hitting both the PS3 and Xbox 360 at the same time. We'll have to see if any price drop can turn the tide around for Sony this generation, but it definitely couldn't hurt.

The only thing that is stopping me from getting a PS3 is the price. I'm sorry but it's just too high. The PS3 is coming up on it's 3rd birthday *I still can't believe it's been almost 3 years since the ps3 and wii have come out... time flies!* and the cheapest you can get one is for 400 bucks. That is just too high. Yes I know it comes with blu-ray built in but I'm not ready to spend 400 dollars on a glorified blu-ray player. I already have a 360 and the Playstation only has like a handfull of exlusives and those few games alone are not enough for me *and I'm sure a lot of other gamers out there... esp when you can buy a 360 for 200 or 100 dollars cheaper and play a lot of the same games* to buy a PS3 at such a high price. It would be smart of Sony to cut the price of the PS3... in fact it should of been done about a year ago. I'm sure they can make up the loss with software sales.
I'm saying this from a consumer point of view... not a fanboy point of view... so my comment may seem anti-sony... it's not. I want to buy a PS3 but not at this price. Yes the 360 doesn't come with wi-fi and yes the 200 dollar 360 has no hard drive but at least microsoft is giving you the option of downgrading in order to afford and enjoy a current gen. gaming device. It seems like to me Sony is saying to the consumer "this is what we have and this is what you want in a video game... now pay this price!" and that just doesn't look or sound good. I really do hope they cut the price of the ps3 cause like I said I do want one but I'm not willing to pay $400 or $500 just so I can play little big planet or MGS4.
I have a lot of the same sentiment.
I was a huge Sony fan, which started dwindling after the PS3's release and so far hasn't stopped dwindling. I know the piece of hardware is really good, and it doesn't make sense for Sony to kill themselves still selling it at a loss, but that doesn't make me want to buy it yet.
I know I will, I've got LBP and Singstar for it already and I'll be getting Versus XIII, but I'm picky when it comes to games I like and I can't justify $400 just to play the maybe 4 games I may want to. It'd be nice to have a blu-ray player just in case but I don't watch movies on discs.
It would be nice if I could play the remaining PS2 titles I have after my old fat crapped out.
