LEGO Rock Band DS Details

LEGO Rock Band didn't score the best impression with us at E3, despite what seemed like a sweet-ass recipe for success. Now Harmonix, TT Games and MTV Games have revealed details for the Nintendo DS version of the game, which is mercifully DSi compatible and, therefore, free of peripherals. If you've played
On-screen and button-based controls will combine with multiplayer to give LEGO Rock Band DS the chance it needs to rock your hand. (Oh, reader, if only I could help out with that bit...) So you'll be able to rock out with bass, guitar, drums or vocals without a single extra piece of plastic, while dynamic track-switching and combo multipliers should ensure the core Rock Band experience goes relatively undiluted.
As always, however, it comes down to the track list, which is what had some of our number a little grumpy at E3. And while this initial setlist doesn't just wow me with songs I'm dying to shred with my lil' LEGO rocker dude, I must admit that the trendy Manhattanite in me does look forward to playing "A-Punk" like it's early 2008 all over again.
Check it out:
- Kaiser Chiefs: "Ruby"
- The Automatic: "Monster"
- Ray Parker Jr.: "Ghostbusters"
- Tom Petty: "Free Fallin'"
- Jackson 5: "I Want You Back"
- Vampire Weekend: "A-Punk"
- Blur: "Song 2"
- Carl Douglas: "Kung Fu Fighting"
- Europe: "The Final Countdown"
- Good Charlotte: "Girls & Boys"
- Pink: "So What"
- Counting Crows: "Accidentally in Love"
- Sum 41: "In Too Deep"

Rock Band DS may have an okay track list, but I liked Band Hero DS better. It looked better, the controls were better, I even liked track list better. And, for what it's worth, I have normal-sized man-hands, and the guitar grip wasn't so uncomfortable I couldn't play for hours on end.
I really want "The Final Countdown" and "Free Fallin" as DLC for Rock Band 2.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
