Iwata: Lack Of 'Big Titles' Behind Wii Sales Decline, No Price Cut

933.jpg

Nintendo's recent investor meeting saw president Satoru Iwata both defending the slowdown in Wii sales and deflecting talk of a hardware price cut:

"It's not the case of the quality of hardware moved, the feeling of missing strong competitive power, lacking its luster or poor sales," replied Iwata. "Consistently, big time titles will be released in the marketplace for this hardware. When that stops, to reinvigorate the console, or to put it another way, I think the current decline in hardware sales is due to the fact that there aren't many big titles (at the moment)."
"Right now," Iwata concluded, "there aren't a lot of discussions going on about what exactly to do about hardware pricing."

But with sales down from 5 million to 2 million in the first quarter, addressing the Wii's software shortcomings may not be enough to fluff sales. Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii are in the pipeline and should be out by the holidays, which could be a crucial period for Nintendo (and everyone else) this year.

Don't Go Looking For A Wii Price Cut Just Yet

Here's the problem.

Once you buy a Wii, you don't need to buy another one.

Same goes, with almost every other console ever made!

So sales are declining, because everyone already owns a Wii.

The only way that Nintendo can sell more Wii's, is if there is a price cut, or if they release the Black Wii in America.

Otherwise, they will have to wait until Monster Hunter Tri/3 comes out in the USA.

i don't think it's just a lack of Big Titles for the Wii, i think it may be the excess of lack luster titles as well. plus, i mean if it's a big enough title and it isn't specifically owned by nintendo, i personally would just rather play it on a different system.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
