2K Play Confirms Indie Games In Development

Yesterday, NaviFairy mentioned the apparent existence of a game called Axel & Pixel, and speculated it would likely be a downloadable game. Well, 2K Games is now confirming that the point-and-click adventure Axel & Pixel will be heading exclusively to the Xbox 360 via the Xbox LIVE Arcade along with another indie game, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.
"At 2K, we look to support talented independent video game developers and discover ways of bringing their work to the mass market," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom and Axel & Pixel are passion projects for us. We saw the potential and the talent in these two unique and bold concepts, and are thrilled to be able to provide these developers with the support to create compelling games without altering their distinct visions."
Developer The Odd Gentlemen originally created The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom as a student thesis project at USC. In the game, the villainous P.B. Winterbottom uses his time-bending abilities to cooperate with, compete against and disrupt his past, present and future selves to steal pies. Now that's a criminal quest I can get behind. Especially if they're cherry. The game has already gotten some nominations and awards for its art style and gameplay mechanics, even though it won't be hitting XBLA until early 2010.
Axel & Pixel is developed by Silver Wish Games in the Czech Republic, and tells the story of Axel the artist and his canine companion Pixel as they journey through a surreal and dangerous Dream World. You'll point and lick your way through beautiful hand drawn environments, somewhere around fall of 2009.
At this point, there's no definite release dates or pricing information, but both titles will be playable at PAX. Unfortunately, I'm not going to PAX. So I'll have to wait until someone else in the castle lucky enough to get some hands-on time with the games returns with some news. Sigh. I do love me some pointing and clicking...
