Wootini's Weekly Animal Crossing Diary

RUU_0308.JPG

Dear Diary,

This was an awesome week in Narnia. And not because I caught a bunch of fish and bugs or Nook finally decided to remodel the store so I can get back the big one full of items so I can boost my point totals faster. I didn't even mind that I still had no luck getting a golden axe out of the stupid fairy in the fountain. I got something even more awesome than a stupid golden axe. What is it? Ah, you'll have to make the jump to find out!

First off, July continues to be a wealth of new museum entries. Right away, I caught an evening cicada. They're not worth many bells, but I like to catch them anyway because I'd forgotten how annoyingly noisy they are! Later, I caught a crazy-big Napoleon fish, an arapaima, a blue marlin, and a puffer fish. No new bugs this week aside from the golden stag beetle, which I'm assuming is crazy rare, because I've never seen one before or since. It was shiny and pretty. Still plenty of other beetles around, some of which are worth decent amounts of bells, so they're worth sneaking up on to snag and sell.

This week, Bud started talking about moving away from Narnia. I immediately told him not to, because he's kind of cool. I like him. I mean, not that I'm super attached to him or anything, but I might miss him if he were gone. Thing is, I can't be this attached to my friends because then none of them will ever leave, and then how will I ever make new friends? Next time I should let him go. Or someone else. But not Pippy! Never Pippy!

I was pleasantly surprised to see Pete standing outside my house waiting for me one day. not because he's a sparkling conversationalist, but because it means he has a special delivery. And this was the most special of them all. Nintendo sent a letter with a gift to celebrate summer. And it wasn't edible... but it looks like it should be!

That's right — it's an effing HOT DOG HAT! How awesome is that? I mean, really?!? I had to wait a day before I could wear it because the Able Sisters didn't have anything that went with it, and there was nothing in my closet that worked, either. I had to order this red checked shirt to wear with it. I look like I should be working at a fast food restaurant, but danged if this isn't probably my most favorite outfit so far! I love that Nintendo can just make up all kinds of crazy stuff and then add it in when the mood strikes! Hot dog hat FTW! Woo hoo!

In much less interesting news, following a rollicking game of hide-and-seek, Biskit decided to give me another nickname. I don't mind Dr. C, but it would have made more sense if he'd thought it up while I was actually wearing the doctor outfit from a few weeks ago. Ah, whatever. It's better than some of the other nicknames these weirdos have come up with!

I do love Pascal's words of... um, "wisdom," I guess. I'd been holding onto the scallop for weeks and weeks waiting for him to show up, and when he finally did, he had a cute little quote for me, but all he gave me was another keg. Sigh. Whatevs. So totally not worth the wait. And where does he go when he backflips into the river and lets himself float out to sea? Is that island still out there somewhere? Oh, I miss that island. That was fun.

I would be very surprised if Nintendo was just making up Animal Crossing DLC as they go along and adding it in as you say. I think that they pre-packed the game with scads of hidden items and are just unlocking them according to their own inscrutable schedule. Just like they did with Professor Layton.

Wouldn't hackers technically be able to find the hidden hex codes easily, though? Like with the pikmin, for example. Hackers like dspet seem to know how the hex codes operate, and would probably be able to unlock the DLC in ACToolkit (a program used to hack AC save files).

And there was a recent European DLC that was voted on by EU citizens (a sandcastle), so unless the voting was entirely fixed, I don't see how that could have been pre-written.

But who knows? The water gun won the popular vote, and people were wondering why the sand castle was released in its place. Some assumed that because tools need special coding that the water gun just may not have worked with the pre-existing code structures. This would be an interesting alternate explaination.
