Video: Questionable Crossover - Why Are Rabbids In TMNT Smash Up?
Recently the upcoming Wii brawler TMNT Smash Up was on display at the Japan Expo, and there were some questionable characters included in the roster. By questionable I mean two Rabbids from the Rayam Raving Rabbids games. Yes, it wasn't enough to bring one demonic bunny along, but there is both a "Raving Rabbid" character and a Sam Fisher decked "Splinter Rabbid."
There is some hope that this may just be a joke, or a placeholder for other characters. Already confirmed characters like Casey Jones, Foot Soldier, and Utrominator are absent from the Japan Expo demo, so I'm hoping that these Rabbids are just filling in while other characters are getting an extra coat of polish. But series creator Peter Laird did say there would be "surprise characters you certainly wouldn't expect." I'd say this qualifies.
As a huge TMNT fan, I was really looking forward to TMNT Smash Up as a celebration of the characters for the 25th anniversary of the comics. And there are so many characters that should be getting placement over non-TMNT characters like the Rabbids. Baxter Stockman, Bebop, Rocksteady, Triceratons, Slash, General Traag, and Leatherhead to name a scant few. If Ubisoft is intent of putting a rabbit in though, there is only one that will do: Miyamoto Usagi.

Some things I want in the game:
1. Triceratons. I love those guys.
2. "Comic color" option where all the turtles wear red (I've always preferred that, having first been exposed to TMNT via the original comics)
3. "Movie" Shredder with the red suit and the vents in the mask. Sooooooo badass!
I love the idea of a "comic color" option.
The alternate costume I'm most hoping for is something else for April. I hated the yellow ninja suit in the most recent TMNT movie, and I'm not liking it much better now. Either give her the yellow 80's jumpsuit from the old show or let her wear jeans like the comics.
That jumpsuit on April was like...the ONLY thing about the new movie I didn't like, really. I really hope they do another one.
And yeah, 80s cartoon April would be a cool alt costume for her.
Two's a bit much but I'm all for a Rabbid guest starring in this game.
Teenage Mutant Smash Bros? No thanks... And the Rabbids stand for pretty much everything that makes the Wii unattractive for me as an "old School" gamer. Epic Fail!
I was excited for this, but the more I read, the more it looks like they are really screwing it up. I don't see any fan service to the 80's cartoon or the original comic. Everything seems to be based on the newest movie and 2003 cartoon, which means it is targeted at little kids, not people who grew up with the franchise. On top of that I keep hearing about how the controls need a ton of fine-tuning. And... rabbids? Those things were sort of amusing for like thirty seconds. Now they're just stupid.
I would kill for a Turtles Smash Bros, but this doesn't look like it will qualify.
