Valkyria Chronicles 2 Announced For PSP
Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best games in the PS3 library. Some (for example, me) would even say that it is hands-down the single best game on Sony's hardware. Fans of the game have been waiting eagerly for news of a sequel, and now thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu Magazine we have that news. Valkyria Chronicles 2: The Gallia Royal Military Acadamy will be coming to Japanese PSPs this winter.
It's an interesting move putting Valkyria Chronicles on the PSP. In the past when a big franchise moves from console to portable it comes in the form of a side story ala God of War: Chains of Olympus, Daxter, or Secret Agent Clank.
But Valkyria Chronicles 2 looks to be a full blown sequel, taking place 2 years after the first game and continuing the story by focusing on cadets from the Gallia Military Academy as they go off to war for the first time. Scans from the magazine show both the overhead tactical map view and the over-the-shoulder view from the first game, so it looks like Valkyria Chronicles' tactical bliss will be in-tact for the portable rendition.
Looks like I'll finally have to buy a PSP.

I'm somewhat guardedly excited about this; while I don't mind it being on the PSP, I just hope that a: we actually get it over here, since the original didn't sell that well and b: we actually get it in a physical format ie: not download only. I don't know about you, but the original Valkyria Chronicles is something I will definitely pick up again and again for years to come: that's not going to happen with a downloadable version once they stop supporting it!
So I have my fingers firmly crossed on this one.
Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3 was a true labor of love from Sega and I'm hoping that the same level of care is taken with its sequel for the PSP. If that is the case, this game will most definitely be at the top of my list of "must have" titles.
