Rumor: XSEED Bringing Wizard Of Oz JRPG To America

wozcharacters.jpg

While it's yet to be officially announced, hence the rumor tag, it looks pretty likely that XSEED is bringing the Nintendo DS JRPG Riz-Zoawd over with the slightly more English-friendly title, The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road. The game has you controlling Dorothy (and Toto too) as she explores the land of Oz with her four familiar companions: a creepy-looking Scarecrow, a bad-ass Tin Man, and a sensitive Cowardly Lion. Other characters, both from the original story and created for the game, have roles as well. The game looks gorgeous for a DS title, and you can check out the Japanese trailer after the break.

GameFly, once again the source of possible release information, is listing the game with a September 30, 2009 release date, just about a month after the 70th Anniversary of the feature film. I'm not sure if this game is destined to be a mass market hit, but it may be one to keep an eye on, especially if you love the Dragon Quest or Wild Arms series but wanted them to be about three times cuter than they already are.

That lion may be "sensitive", but that Tin Man is definitely not three times cuter! (:

moving around with that ball thing looks like it will hurt your wrist more than masturbating for 10 hours straight

Yay! I've been waiting for news on this for a while.

Well it looks kinda cool, in the JRPG kind of way.. but spinning a ball in order for her to move? Lame. I hope that is optional.

Making people use a virtual trackball is not the bestest of ideas. I can see that getting old really quickly. What ever happened to people just using the D~Pad for controlling direction?& it could be me, but Miss Dorothy Gale has anywhere between blonde to brunette hair, never red. I think it would have been far more delovely if they just used the cast from the manga Dorothy Of Oz.

Any one ever hear of Zardoz? It had Sean Connery running around in a red banana hammock with bandoleers. It just barely has to do with Wizard of Oz, so I thought I'd bring your attention to it.

Any way I think I'll probably pick this up.
