Microtransactions In WoW 'Possible'

WoW_HvA.jpg

Following coolly on the heels of its Faction-swapping announcement, World of Warcraft game director Tom Chilton said that microtransactions might very well be the future of WoW, after some beta testers noticed a heading marked "Paid Character Customization."

Said Chilton:

"I certainly think it's possible that we could do some kind of micro-transaction stuff."

"Whether we ever shift to a free-to-play model is really too hard to say at this point," he added. "Anything I say now could easily five years from now end up seeming like, oh my gosh, that was an incredibly dumb thing to say, how naive!"

But with the December debut of Blizzard's $15 option to change your WoW toon's look, name and gender - we don't think Chilton really expects to look back on that comment in some years and say anything other than "cha-ching."

You mean *last* December's debut of the Re-customisation option. I was confused for a minute there.

I think so, Steve. Maybe he just wanted to inform people who are not familiar with the term what it is. =)

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
