NYC Teens Better World Through Gaming

While Obama keeps stumping for kids to "step away from the video games" (while perhaps nursing his own gaming addiction?), New York City teens are stepping toward video games in a big, public, positive way.
This weekend saw the first-ever NYC Youth Media & Technology Festival, which focused on creating games and other digital media projects, all to advance social causes and send positive messages about celebrity drug use, media consolidation, and genocide. That's a mite better than GTA, President Obama!
The New York Public Library was on hand with some young designers showcasing games about these serious issues, while the Global Kids Virtual Video Project held a premiere of an animated short film about child sex trafficking in the US. MOUSE was there advocating their plan to develop open source labs for New York City public schools, as well as advocating for the OLPC program and other techie steps forward.
