Hey Capcom, Any Chance On A SF3 HD Remix?
![]()
The fighting game genre seems to come into and out of mainstream fashion in waves. A year or two ago it was largely dead, but with the recent release of Street Fighter 4, this week's BlazBlue, and a ton of DLC re-releases it seems that fans are riding high on the latest batch of fighting action. One of the biggest releases this time around is Capcom's Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Ever since the release of the title, fans have been asking the iconic fighting developer/publisher what other games might be getting the HD Remix treatment. Perhaps the frequently overlooked classic Street Fighter 3? Over at Capcom-unity, Christian Svensson (Capcom's Corporate Officer / VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development) tackles the question head on...
An HD Remix on SF3 would be a challenge in and of itself given the number of frames of animation and effects that would have to be redone, especially in light of what we learned on SSF2THDR. As such, the very nature of the project you're suggesting is somewhat unlikely. But if it were to happen, I would suspect a retail release would also be unlikely given our current strategy for Remixes.
I can't say that I don't blame them. SF3 had some incredibly detailed 2D sprite work and if the original SF2 had enough artwork to delay the project multiple times, I'm sure that SF3 would require an even longer development cycle. While HD is cute and all, it would be awesome if Capcom made more of its fighters available like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I don't think people absolutely need HD as long as it has some nice online features. Though, if Capcom was to go back to fighting well, I'd like to see something along the lines of Pocket Fighter before we see any more main series installments.

I would LOVE a HD remix of 3rd Strike. It's still the best fighting game ever made if you ask me. Too bad it sounds like it'll never happen...but I'd settle for an online-capable PSN/Live version.
