Fan Art Friday: Gray Fox Custom Mighty Mugg

With our fearless leader and his bunch or merry men still soaking up the LA smog sun, I decided to make a tiny addition to the GayGamer castle's Fan Art Gallery while no one else was looking. I'm sure Fruit Brute won't mind if I sneak this one in. This week's addition has a special place in my heart for two reasons. First, it uses on my favorite characters from one of my favorite games for inspiration: Metal Gear Solid's Gray Fox (sorry, but after 10+ years you don't deserve the twist reveal). Second, it's a custom Mighty Mugg, one of my most recent and most fervent toy/figure addictions.
Crafted by the masterful Somakun, this rendition of the exoskeleton-clad ninja only measures a few inches tall but features the precision detail and signature graphic style the commercial line up of figures display while still remaining true to the original character design. Knowing that he had a hot item on his hands, Somakun choose to put this figure on eBay earlier this week where it eventually sold for $91. Who ever said that mercenary cyborg ninjas came cheap?
With all things Metal Gear front and center with numerous announcements at E3, including the PS1 classic getting re-released on the PlaySation Network, I hope that Somakun continues to craft customs using the series as an inspiration. I'd love to see some other characters get the miniature treatment. Both Snakes, Otacon, and Sniper Wolf would all be fun additions, but I would totaly fawn over an even more adorable version of the infinitely wise Mei Ling. Until then, check out more of his creations over on his Tomopop blog.
