E3 09: Fragile

XSEED showed off some gameplay from the hotly-anticipated Wii title Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon at E3, and I watched as Seto, believing himself the last boy on Earth, encountered another boy, who taunted him and promptly stole the necklace his grandfather had given him. So Seto had to explore an eerie abandoned amusement park to find him and get it back. The post-apocalyptic world is dark and sufficiently desolate, and the character design has kind of a Kingdom Hearts feel to it. We also saw some combat as Seto encountered vicious giant dogs roaming the park. Fragile had a lot of buzz overseas and there were plenty of US fans desperate to get their hands on it, so when Namco Bandai passed on translating the game, XSEED snapped it up and has just begun translating it. So naturally, this means you're not going to be playing it until possibly Q1 2010, but more likely summer. There's a lot of voicework to translate as well as in-game graffiti that serves as clues that may need to be redone by the development team because subtitles would draw too much attention to it. XSEED is also considering tweaking the controls somewhat, as the Wiimote controls your flashlight, and it can sometimes get a little awkward when engaging in combat. But for all of you eagerly awaiting Fragile's trip to the US can finally rest easy knowing that it is coming... eventually!
