Dungeons & Dragons Online Has What You Need In Upcoming Store

Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO) is switching to a new pricing model this summer when it launches Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited. The game will be free to download and play but the launch of a new store will attempt to make up for the lost fees by charging for items such as adventure packs, items, and account services. Items can be bought on their own or a subscription will get you unlimited access to everything.
Today, Turbine has released some screens of the new store. Initially, I was a bit concerned by some of the things I'd seen in these screens, like a charge for picking/changing your character's class and race. But then noticed that you can alternately gain "Favor" in the game to purchase items rather than paying money and once you purchase the race option you can make as many characters of that race as you please. I'm not sure how hard it is to gain "favor" but hopefully it's something that doesn't take an inordinate amount of time or folks are going to end up being nickel and dimed to death for every little thing.
If you'd like to check out how things are progressing for yourself, you can get in on the newly launched Beta at http://www.ddo.com.

Okay so now their doing things the Korean way? 'Yeah it's free to play.. but if you want to really have fun you'll need four of those, five of these and about a dozen of those. Price? About 10 bucks American, isn't that awesome!!?!?' Yeah.. thanks but no thanks.
I hate those kind of games because in the end unless your spend some actual money your shafted when it comes to armor, weapons, items and apparently races too, I'll stick to D&D 'pen and paper' edition thanks.

At first, I thought it would be exactly how you described, but I don't judge a book by its cover, so I signed up for the beta.
I got accepted yesterday, and to be honest, the game is flat out the best MMO I have ever played. The whole "nickle-and dimed" thing is non-existent. The only races you're missing out on is Warforged (compensating for something) and Drow (Drizzt clones), and the only class is Monk. Just for joining the beta, you get 1500 free points, more than enough to buy both races and the class.
The combat is stellar, no matter if you're playing a ranger, a bard, or a wizard. Anything you can buy with real money, you can earn by playing the game, and if you really don't feel like paying a couple bucks for a new class or race or weapon, just pay the $15 (or less if bought in bulk) per month and have everything.
Overall, this is D&D 3.5 in digital form. The dungeon master voice-overs, the voice chat between party members, and the wide variety of monsters, weapons, armor, and areas to explore all just make the already amazing experience that much better.
So, just try it in the beta. If you hate it, you can always just stop playing, and it won't cost you a thing.

Hmmm, I think I'll try this out.
Game is a blast up until level 4/5 when you start running out of "solo" content and you are forced into 4 manned groups.
Tried to play 2man with a friend and kept getting owned both in appropiate level solo play and grouping quests one level below us.
And I even rerolled to a cleric which is supposed to be one of the best soloers.
