C.O.P. Is Recruiting For The DS
For a little bit of a change of pace, Ubisoft is developing an open-world adventure game where you're actually on the right side of the law. The real surprise is that this deep, detailed sandbox game is going to be on the Nintendo DS! C.O.P. The Recruit tells the story of Dan Miles, a former underground street racer and new recruit in the Criminal Overturn Program (C.O.P.) where he now uses his connections to work as a street detective to clear his mentor's name and stop a terrorist attack on New York City.
"With its innovative engine and impressive graphics, C.O.P. The Recruit is truly a breakthrough for Nintendo's handheld platform," said Adam Novickas, US director of marketing for Ubisoft. "We're thrilled to be bringing this accessible, one-of-a-kind action-adventure experience to DS fans and are confident in the game's ability to appeal to a broad audience of gamers."
Ubisoft is proudly declaring that C.O.P. The Recruit will run at 60 FPS and has no loading times. There's 60 missions that should amount to 20 hours of gameplay as you explore six square miles of the Big Apple in a variety of environments both in vehicles and on foot. A PDA will help you achieve victory as you can do things like launch a SWAT team assault through your DS microphone, set up road blocks, summon ambulances and access the city's camera system to locate your targets. I have to say this is an ambitious game that's looking impressive already, but I think the real litmus test is going to be how it controls. And we'll all have to wait until C.O.P. The Recruit releases in the fall of this year to see about that!
